Hey there, lovely reader,
It's been very quiet for me these past weeks as I bury myself in writing.
I did manage to stay up to watch fireworks on July 4th, though. They are launched from San Francisco Bay and we live at the top of the hill (mountain?) overlooking it.
It's always a spectacular show and as I'm practically a hermit at the moment, I found it lovely just to be able to walk outside and watch from my lounger.
One year we did venture down the hill (mountain?) to see them but we had to stand and I got a crick in my neck looking up. The horrors! Never again. π
I guess I'm a fair-weather fireworks watcher, but so be it. π₯
Never too late to start
I bought myself an exercise bench a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was time. I spend so many hours on my behind and I'm getting to an age where I need to care about losing muscle if I'm to keep doing what I'm doing.
I am lucky in that I have no aches and pains, no injuries, or problems, but many authors do and I don't want to tempt fate. I have a trainer who sends me workouts and I faithfully fill in my progress.
It's been a bit of a challenge to get going. My son built the bench for me, then I had to learn how to use it. I've tied bands to it, set hand weights beside it, and made a little gym in the corner of my workspace.
Each morning I go for a “ruck.” I strap on a weighted vest and briskly walk around the neighbourhood for half an hour. When I get back, I steel myself to throw the weights around in a semi-organized fashion. Nothing too difficult yet, but I am getting stronger.
I'm usually quite tired afterward. Okay, very tired. But after something to eat, I'm ready to crack on at my desk. And my hope is that maintaining my fitness will ensure I will be able to keep writing for many years to come.
Right, back to Gorey for me. Inspector Graham wants to update me on his latest case. I'm sure it will be fascinating. π
Have a lovely week.
Happy reading!
