πŸ“š I nearly decided not to πŸ“š

Greetings!

I'm getting closer and closer to publishing the next book in the Diana Hunter series, Broken. I can't wait to share it with you.

To whet your appetite, I have a teaser and a new game that you can play without having read the book. But first, a warning.

Broken: A warning

Broken is the penultimate book in the Diana series. It's great. I love it. It's the first Diana in erm, what, six years? And I know Diana readers have been anxiously looking forward to it. But I want to prepare you.

When I write my books, I always start from the premise that the ending will be satisfying. The reader might be a puddle on the floor, but they will be clear on the outcome and who “did it.” Threads will not hang. They will be tucked in and sewn in place.

The thing is with this Diana, as the penultimate, there are a lot of threads. There is no way to sew them all up in one book. This latest book is a little cliffy. Not a lot. Not in a throw-the-book-across-the-room kind of way but it is more open-ended than I usually write and what readers expect from me. I considered not publishing it until the final book was done.

I have had extensive discussions with my editor about releasing the book. I have talked with other authors. Eventually I polled my Diana street team, explaining the situation, and asking whether they would like me to publish now or wait. To my surprise, the result of the poll was an absolute dead heat.

So I have decided to publish for those who want the latest installment in the Diana series now. But for those who hate cliffhangers, I suggest you wait for the final book in 2025 and read the final two back to back. I will leave the decision in your hands.

Broken: The blurb

Crime. Conspiracy. A world where AI meets age-old deceit.

When artificial intelligence promises to safeguard society, a chilling discovery casts a dark shadow on its true purpose. Twenty-two young women are abandoned on a train track, thrusting Diana into a labyrinth of deception and danger.

Armed with nothing but her wits and cryptic clues, she finds herself at the crux of an illicit game. Her quest for answers plunges her into the murky depths of organized crime, where betrayal is business, and information could be lethal.

As lines blur between savior and captor, the software's sinister uses unravel, painting innocents as criminals and shielding the corrupt. Meanwhile, Diana's confrontation with wrongdoing spirals into a life-or-death gambit, pitting her against a relentless adversary as she acts as decoy. Or is she the ultimate target?

Every step draws Diana deeper into a plot that challenges her every belief about justice and morality. She must decide who to trust, who to save, and who to bring to justice. Loyalty and treachery collide. With the clock ticking, Diana faces an impossible choice: save those she loves or sacrifice everything for the greater good?

Broken is a taut techno-thriller that weaves a tale of corruption, courage, and indomitable human spirit. It's a race against time where the hunter becomes the hunted, and the very technology that was meant to protect threatens to tear everything apart. Can Diana expose the web of lies before it's too late?

Broken will be out next week. It will be available on Kindle, in paperback, and via Kindle Unlimited. I will announce it when it is published.
